9 Strange Periodic Tables
Like Venn diagrams and flowcharts, the periodic table of elements gives us a geeky form in which to sort and convey all kinds of information. In what has become a semi-annual series, here are more periodic tables put to interesting, but not necessarily elemental uses, in this list I posted at mental_floss.

The most traditional places to get married are a church, the government facility that issues marriage licenses, a resort, or a home. Then there are those few people who hold their wedding ceremony at a retail outlet. Some do it for sentimental reasons, some do it to save money, some do it for the publicity, and some just because they got a kick out of it. Read about seven of these weddings in this article I wrote for mental_floss.

Recent studies show that an afternoon nap is good for us. I can vouch for that, as I nap every day around 2PM. That’s easy for me, since I have flexible work hours and my bed is maybe 20 feet from my office. Those of you in an office setting may have to make strategic plans to fit a catnap into your busy work schedule. You can find tips for power-napping, but most of these guides assume that a short nap is allowed in the workplace, which you and I know is rarely the case. See some ways to sneak a catnap surreptitiously in this article I wrote for mental_floss.

Where Candy Canes Come From
One year when I was very young, my mother took me to see Santa Claus at Miller's department store in Knoxville. They had a candy cane factory set up in the middle of the sales floor! While we kids waited in line to see Santa, we could watch through the glass windows and see the candy being cooked, pulled, twisted, and wrapped. After we spoke to Santa, each child would get a fresh cane, still slightly warm. That's a memory I will always treasure. But where did the tradition of Christmas candy canes come from? Read about it in this article I wrote for mental_floss.

7 Horrifying Aircraft Landings (in which no one died)
Many people board an
airplane flight thinking that if anything goes wrong, they will
probably die. We board anyway, knowing that the odds of something going
wrong are pretty small. In these seven stories, hundreds of passengers
thought it was the end for them, but thanks to skilled pilots and crew
members (and a fair amount of luck), they all survived to fly again. If
they ever wanted to. Read about them in this article I wrote for mental_floss.

Since I've updated here, I changed the format at my main blog, Miss Cellania. Now I post several times a day, shorter posts that mostly have only one item, a link or video or a funny picture. I still post a couple of jokes a day that you can pass along to your friends. Recent videos include the trailer for Fanboys (which I look forward to) and Bike Hero, a viral video from the makers of Guitar Hero where a guy uses his bike to play the game.
On the personal side, I suffered a cat attack. Links to all parts of the story are here. Oh yeah, I also bought a new house.
My alternate blog is Miss C Recommends, where you'll find the video of the day every day, plus lists of recommended links you'll enjoy.
At YesButNoButYes, a posted a "Truth or Dare" type list of the guys I would jump into bed with even if I were in a committed relationship. There's over 150 comments for that one so far.
At Neatorama, I haven't posted any major articles in quite a while, but I manage to get up 5-10 items a day that are worth checking out.
At Mental Floss, some recent articles include The Lego Lilfestyle Home, Dreadfully Different Dolls, and 11 Weird and Wonderful Wedding Rings. I post a morning links list there, and every Friday I do a roundup of the weirdest news stories of the week.
I recently joined Twitter, not because I want to post a lot, but because you must be a member to read anything else there. But I follow a lot of other Twitter members, in case you want to join in the fun!

What I've Been Doing Lately
Here’s an update on some of the things I’ve posted lately. Check them out! At mental_floss, at lot of folks liked 9 People Who Did it Anyway, about disabled people who did exactly what they were not supposed to able to do, and The Many Views of Abbey Road. You might enjoy reading up on the Coney Island Freaks of Yesterday and Today, or possibly Zebroids: On Beyond Zebra. Also, 6 Things that Look like the Death Star was very popular. At Neatorama, you don’t want to miss Grand Entrances, or How I Got to the Prom. There are some really neat videos there, too, like The Dog and the Door and We Will Rock You. At YesButNoButYes, check out Where Are They Now: the Cast of M*A*S*H. Also some funny videos, like the Peeps Film Festival, Hamlet is Back, and Yellow Drum Machine. I also posted a personal story about my pets who died, Requiem for Two. At Miss Cellania, I’ve had recent posts on Military Pilots, Chocolate Candy, Grandparents, Nerds, and Languages. The subject matter is pretty wide, and there’s a new topic every day! Go to Miss C Recommends for updated links lists, videos, and full-length films.

In 2007, I became a professional blogger, doing posts I actually
had to work on with research and stuff. You know what they say about
turning your hobby into a career... that you need to find another
hobby! I just don’t have the time anymore. Here are some of the
highlights of 2007 for me. At mental_floss, my post The LOLcat of Death set a record for the most Diggs of any floss article. The article High School Sports Teams got 234 comments, which isn’t a record, but it may be a record for a mental_floss post that didn’t have a prize giveaway! At Neatorama, my post on the Scrubs engagment got the most publicity, although that was just a video link. For posts I put some work into, The Weirdest Insects in the World came out on top. Doing the Top 5 Viral Videos of 2007 post for the ABC News Webcast (mentioned above) was a highlight for me, too! At YesButNoButYes, I don’t even have to figure out which articles did the best, since they are all in the post Top Ten Stories by Miss Cellania, which was published for my birthday. Jon Swift
asked me what post I was proudest of on my own site for the year 2007.
That’s a hard one. The posts that got the most traffic were nothing to
write home about in my opinion, and the ones I worked hardest on got
little attention. But one post was an exception. Schroedinger's Cat was one I was particularly proud of, and over time got a lot of attention, too!
In the real world, my year was pretty much just another year. After a
slight upswing in 2006, my lovelife returned to normal, meaning I went
the entire year without a date. Maybe 2008 will be better. Maybe.

You're invited to come over and see my main blog, Miss Cellania! I post humor and links on a different subject each day. I also have an auxiliary link blog, where I put just anything I find interesting. Its called Miss C Recommends. And I contribute to several other blogs. YesButNoButYes is the greatest pop culture blog on the planet. Or maybe not. I amcurrently the sole female contradictor in this testosterone-infested site. But they treat me well. I post somewhat more adult content over there.
Neatorama is the neat side of the web. I am one of about a half-dozen daily contributors who post the neatest things we find on the web. Updated several times a day.
Mental Floss is where knowledge junkies get their fix. The content is both entertaining and educational. You'll find my contributions there on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Freedom's Place is a relatively new group blog with a wide cast of characters, and very eclectic subject matter. Part political, part personal, part artsy, and part humor. Grumpy Old Bitches is a group of women on both sides of the pond who need a place to rant and complain.
